Don't think for one minute that bowls is just for older people! - at county level in Scotland, the average player's age is probably somewhere in the thirties. Anyone can enjoy a strenuous or leisurely game at Dornoch Bowling Club, beside the Royal Dornoch Golf clubhouse.
Competitive bowling can be an exhausting game and in matches players are expected to perform for three to four hours without a break. During these games they can walk two or three miles and bend up and down about 100 times. Add to that the concentration and effort required and you can see why we need a seat and a few beers after the match! Of course, you don't have to play at that level - bowling is a game for all ages and abilities to enjoy at their own pace.
Dornoch Bowling Club is affiliated to the Scottish Bowling Association and takes part in national and inter-county, as well as its own club, competitions. We have three qualified coaches, who are very happy to help new members. We also have a regular "Fun Afternoon" on Thursdays, which is very popular - here, visitors and beginners can mix and play with more experienced members.
Visitors from other clubs are welcome to join us on rinks nights, or play by themselves at other times. Green fees are £3 per day. A week's Holiday Membership is offered for just £10 and club bowls are available. If no-one is present at the club, visitors may obtain keys, etc. from the Royal Dornoch Pro Shop.
