Thousands of events take place all over the Northern Highlands - not just in the summer but throughout the year.

Here is just a sample of what's planned for 2010. We've also included worthwhile events being held in nearby towns.

Saturday 24th Sutherland County Show - The Links, Dornoch. Annual County Show with Main Ring Entertainment, Livestock competitions, Flower Show, Dog Show and much more.
Sat 24th - Sat 31st Portmahomack Gala Week - 7 days of fun on the Balintore peninsular, includes local gourmet foods, donkey rides, raft race, pet show, fancy dress, craft stalls and a dance.
Sunday 25th Macleod 7 Club Stableford golf competition - Royal Dornoch GC
Thursday 29th Lady Captain's Mixed Foursomes open golf competition - Royal Dornoch GC
Saturday 31st American Wrestling - Show marquee, The Links, Dornoch, from 8pm. Tickets at Show (24th) or at the door, on the night. Adults £10, kids £6.

AUGUST

Wednesday 4th Ladies open golf competition - Royal Dornoch GC
Friday 6th Dornoch Highland Gathering - Dornoch games field, 10.30am. Piping, Highland Dancing, athletics, cycle racing, heavy events, children's events, amusements and craft and trade stalls.
Saturday 7th Farmers' Market - High Street, from 9.30am
Sat 7th - Sat 14th Dornoch Festival Week - Various activities including sports, table tennis, pitch and putt competition, teddy bears' picnic, fancy dress, pet show, treasure hunt, sandcastle competition.
Sun 8th - Fri 13th Carnegie Shield open golf competition - Royal Dornoch GC
Thursday 12th Tain Highland Gathering - Glenmorangie Distillery Site, Tain 10am-5pm. Traditional Highland Gathering with highland dancing, piping, track and field events, heavy events including British Championship medals for 16lb and 22lb hammer, tug of war, sideshows, trade and craft stalls.

Friday 31st Dornoch Hogmanay Street Party Regularly voted one of Scotland's top-ten Hogmanay 'places to be' - dancing, ceilidh band, prize draw, huge firework display – and it's all FREE.
